The Crew
Volunteers are the lifeline of our chapter.
They are the boots on the ground who collaborate on the local, provincial, and national level with regional staff and issue experts to carry out our mission through campaigns, programs, and educational initiatives in the community. Our capacity to achieve environmental victories grows stronger with every new volunteer that joins the crew! To find out how to get involved, please visit our volunteer page.

Calley
CO-CHAIR
Calley's love for the outdoors brought her from Ontario to the stunning shores of Vancouver Island, settling in Tofino. Joining the Surfrider Foundation Pacific Rim chapter in March 2025, she brings a deep appreciation for the ocean, forests, and mountains that define our coastline.
With an undergraduate degree in marine and freshwater biology and experience working in the aquatic sciences, Calley combines her scientific background with her passion for conservation and meaningful community engagement. Currently working at a local surf shop, she remains deeply connected to the ocean and the community it supports.
As Co-Chair, Calley works to lead the chapter, driving our efforts to protect Pacific Rim's unique coastal environment. You'll often find her exploring the trails, catching waves, and working to ensure our beautiful coastline remains healthy for generations to come.

April
VICE CHAIR
April literally grew up on the ocean - born and raised in Clayoquot Sound to parents seeking a different kind of life she spent her childhood on a remote float home where every decision made was dictated by the oceans changing conditions. This experience built a deep respect for the marine environment and a passion towards conservation.
As Vice-Chair of Surfrider Pacific Rim, April works closely with the chapter on issues related to preservation and connects with the public to spread awareness of the issues threatening the health of our oceans through campaigns and local programming.
In her free time you will find April in her garden, hanging out with her family or out for an early morning dip in the sea.

Emily & Jamie
BEACH CLEAN CO-LEADS
Jamie and Emily have been living in Ucluelet for about four years now, and Jamie has been on the island his whole life. We love being outside—surfing, camping, canoeing, wakeboarding, and just exploring the amazing landscapes around us. Our connection to the land, ocean, and community runs deep, and seeing the impact of plastic pollution in these places has made us want to give back and help protect them however we can.
Emily has been beach cleaning with Surfrider Pacific Rim for about four years, and with a passion for teaching, it only made sense to take that energy into creating curriculum and educational programs with Surfrider. A trained teacher, Emily now works in professional development for educators, helping them bring engaging and meaningful learning experiences to their students. From teaching and coaching to PSW work and camp counseling, she’s always been dedicated to working with kids—especially when it comes to getting them outside, connected to nature, and caring for the land they’re on!

Loretta
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Originally from England, Loretta moved to Tofino four years ago. Since then, she has come to appreciate the serenity of hiking in nature, dog walks, and the slower pace of life that Tofino offers. Working as a server in town, Loretta is deeply committed to Surfrider’s mission of protecting the oceans and beaches, and she’s proud to be part of a community that values environmental conservation.
In her free time you will find April in her garden, hanging out with her family or out for an early morning dip in the sea.

Mathieu
AMBASSADOR
Mathieu is originally from Montreal and relocated to the island 3 years ago. He’s joined the team as our campaign ambassador and liaison to the ReSurf program with Surfrider Canada. He’s stoked to help find solutions towards a more sustainable community in Ucluelet, where he calls home. He does his part by picking up trash on the beach whenever he can.
Mathieu believes that nature is intricately linked to us, and the more we break that link, the easier it is to forget our true path in life. Mathieu’s goal is to try and repair the bridge that was burnt down by former generations of greed. Mission impossible you might say, but he hopes to lead by example and show some positivity in the face of impending doom. He wants to encourage everyone to use reusable mugs, put an end to single-use plastics, and make choices every day that impact the future in a more sustainable way.

Samantha
MEDIA LEAD
My profound love for the Pacific Northwest coastline is the driving force behind my involvement with Surfrider. Formerly from Vancouver and having served as the Director of Communications for Surfrider Vancouver, I relocated to the island and transferred to Surfrider Pacific Rim. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on initiatives, I hope to do my part in preserving our most vital ecosystems.
In a professional setting, I work as a high-level Personal Assistant. I absolutely love my job and I am grateful every day for the unique opportunities to work closely with inspiring and successful individuals. In my free time, you can find my dog and I on the beach, out in the water, tucked between the trees, or on a long stretch of highway in search of a hidden gem. When I’m not chasing the sun and wandering the scenic route, I like to unwind on my yoga mat, surround myself with good company, or sample the cocktails at my favourite restaurants. Cheers!
