Waxon Waxoff Partnership

Surfrider Pacific Rim is eager to announce our recent partnership with Waxon Waxoff, supporting another component of circular economic practice within the surfing industry.

Nicolas Teichrob is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been operating a wax up-cycling business from his home in Ucluelet for the past few years. The operations of his passion project consists of acquiring bundles of old surf wax - donated by local surfers to a drop box located at Relic Surf Shop - and re-purposing the wax into new products. Thus redirecting old wax from our landfill.

The process is fairly simple; Nic takes the wax scrapings, melts everything down, strains debris, adjusts for current water temperatures and pours the wax into different mold shapes. As of now, you can grab a bar of Waxon Waxoff wax at Relic Surfshop for a toonie. They will be expanding into Tofino in the near future.

The real mission behind Waxon Waxoff up-cycled surf wax is, “to rethink waste in surfing communities. Simply, surf wax needs to help keep your feet on the board, and whether the wax is new or old, white or grey, it can have the same functionality. If we can rethink wax, it can be a catalyst to rethinking other discarded items in our day to day lives," says Nic.

Waxon Waxoff's partnership with Surfrider Pacific Rim will allow operational support while educating surf communities worldwide with the possibility of repurposing surf wax. Through this new partnership with Surfrider Pacific Rim, “We see the real potential to create a model that can be shared far beyond our local west coast beaches…by dropping off your used wax, you are helping to close the loop on what has traditionally been a one-time use product - a real act towards sustainability”, says Nic.

Please reach out to Surfrider Pacific Rim if you’d be interested in helping out with Waxon-Waxoff!
