RADar Beach Clean

On November 10th 2021, Surfrider volunteers waded through mud and clambered over trees to make the trek down to Radar Beach! We got about 3.5 feet of accumulated rainfall in November, but we were rewarded with a rare sunny day for this mission.

9 volunteers, 1.3km of coastline cleaned, >600kg of trash removed! Main trends was fishing and aquaculture debris (oyster crates, buoys, rope, barrels, fish totes etc), however we also found 38 aluminum cans and other picnic items. Please pack out what you pack in folks!

Other important finds were a thinly encapsulated foam float from a dock, and NINE HUNDRED SINGLE USE BOTTLES! Please support our campaigns to get upstream solutions to these debris issues (Take Back the Tap and Foam Dock replacement and ban!).

Huge gratitude to our incredible volunteers for their energy and enthusiasm, Common Loaf for keeping us fed, Atleo Air for flying the bags out, Son Bird for the in-kind support trucking the debris to the Ocean Plastic Depot, and to Ocean Legacy Foundation for helping us to recycle >80% of the debris pulled from this beach! We love our community!
