As lockdown regulations cautiously begin to ease, many of us are counting down the days until we get the all-clear to jump in the car and head to the beach. Whilst we’re all anxious to get our dose of Vitamin Sea, we’re also committed to working together to protect coastal communities and keep each other safe in these uncertain times. With that in mind, we’ve created this handy resource to help you #RecreateResponsibly.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and as we immerse ourselves in nature at the parks and beaches we love, let’s think about the actions we can take to protect not only public health, but the health of entire ecosystems that delight and sustain us:
REDUCE YOUR FOOTPRINT:
Bring your own utensils for takeout, take your reusable mug with you and request contactless exchange, pack your reusable bags outside of the grocery store, and do a #5minutebeachclean every time you hit the beach. Remember to make it count by recording your data via the Marine Debris Tracker App (scan the QR code for more info).
VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLAR:
On the Pacific Rim there are scores of Ocean Friendly Businesses working hard to safely provide goods and services that are good for you and the planet. Choose to support deposit-return schemes on reusable packaging, dine-in where you can, and support small, local, and ethical. Check out the list of registered Ocean Friendly Businesses here.

Spring 2020 inspired us to reassess many aspects of our lives, to redefine what is “essential”; and as the skies and rivers temporarily cleared of pollution and wildlife returned to urban spaces, to reconnect and reevaluate our relationship with our living planet. As we begin to re-open, to return to the beaches and boardwalks of our beautiful shared home, and as governments direct billions of public dollars to shaping our post-pandemic reality, it’s essential to apply what we have learned to move forward, creating an equitable, inclusive, and regenerative economy for all.
