Surfrider Pacific Rim's 5th Annual Short Film Festival is organized to celebrate the spirit of oceanic enjoyment and activism through the lens of cinema! This year, the entire event is being held virtually!
Local and international environmental short films are screened that show diverse efforts to celebrate and protect the ocean, beaches, waves. We will also be showing surf films from near and far that tell unique stories around people’s connections to the sea. Often, films have a surf and an environmental or social message woven together, as we’re motivated to feature films that highlight intersectionality in surf and in the environmental movement. The Film Festival includes a national online auction fundraiser of the best west coast items and experiences, as well as a “Film Fest Kit” which local residents (Tofino & Ucluelet) can purchase and enjoy the festival with!
All proceeds will benefit Surfrider Pacific Rim's work of addressing plastic pollution and shifting to a circular economy on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Thanks to the District of Tofino for providing the grant for the fifth annual Surfrider Short Film Festival through the Rural Municipality Initiative program funding (RMI).
This is the first year we’re holding this event virtually! The festival is usually held between the sea and the foggy rainforest in Tofino, B.C., and we welcome folks from near and far to come and enjoy the event and the inspiring messages it teaches. However, while we limit gatherings at this time, we’ve curated the event for maximum enjoyment from the comfort of your living room - no matter where you reside. So, now, you can enjoy Tofino and the west coast vicariously, the home to iconic environmental activism, the best surfing in the nation, and beaches that are the envy of tourism destinations the world over. When the time is right, we look forward to welcoming you back, taking you on a beach clean, and digging into the unique offerings of this special place. #vicariouslytofino #stayandwander
