Radar beach Remote Clean with Surfrider Uvic Club

This past April, Surfrider's Uvic Student Club partnered with Surfrider Pacific Rim to conduct another Radar Beach remote clean. Radar Beach trail's historically steep, muddy, and difficult accessibility made collecting and carrying out debris quite challenging. Therefore, a lot of preparation and planning was conducted prior to the event. Radar Beach has a 2.1km trail to access the beachfront, with 115m in elevation between the beach and parking lot.

Uvic’s Surfrider Club brought 16 students for the weekend-long trip. Small debris was packed out by volunteers, whereas larger debris items were boated out from a point of beach access by a Surfrider Pacific Rim partner; Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC).

A combined total of 183kg (403 Lbs) of beach debris was meticulously collected by all of the event volunteers across Radar beach. The data collected includes 140kg of fishing rope, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), and other accompanying fishing gear.
